ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Slowly but surely the weather is changing and the cold is coming soon. For this reason, the City of Rockford and the Rockford Area Conventions and Visitors Bureau (RACVB) are preparing the return of Stroll on State for 2021.
Volunteers are needed Friday November 19 and Saturday November 20 to distribute the Stroll on State decorations throughout downtown Rockford. There will be two volunteer shifts each day. One from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and another from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Check-in will be at the Rockford Sharefest located at 310 S. Winnebago in Rockford. We encourage you to wear warm clothes as the decoration will be done outside. Face masks will also be required and all COVID-19 recommendations will be followed, officials said.

As part of the decorations, the Christmas tree is one of the most famous traditions of the Stroll on State festival. As officials research this year’s tree, residents are encouraged to submit local tree suggestions.
The selection criteria include:
- Tree width, height and location
- Transport capacity under all power lines
- Tree fullness
- Blue spruce is preferred but not required
- The tree must be donated; however, the RACVB will pay for the felling of the tree
Anyone living in the Rockford area is encouraged to submit a tree for review. You can submit a tree by emailing photos and tree details to [email protected]
The tree will be harvested on Tuesday, November 16. Once a tree is selected, it will be transported safely to its new home for Stroll on State and the Davis Park vacation in downtown Rockford.
